Mere hours after the Liverpool winger said he is "very happy at Liverpool", the 28-year-old appears to have suggested he is considering his best course of action for the future – at a time when Barcelona are keeping tabs on him. Diaz may be looking for a contract extension, running down his current terms that expire in 2027, or heading for pastures new.

In addition to his latest Liverpool comments, Diaz said, via Sport Witness: “If Liverpool don’t extend our contract, I still have the two years I have left with them, and I’ll be happy to stay there. Now it’s up to them. I’m here to decide and look at what’s best for us and the future."
