Serhou Guirassy scored a record-breaking hat-trick as Borussia Dortmund beat Barcelona 3-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Guinean striker netted all three of his side's goals as Dortmund overpowered the Spanish giants in the second-leg of the quarter-final tie, though it was not enough to overturn their 4-0 defeat from the first leg.

Guirassy's treble makes him the first African player to score three goals in a single match at the quarter-finals or later in the Champions League. It also takes his tally in the competition up to 13 this season – the most by an African player in a single campaign. He is also the first from the continent to strike three times against Barcelona in Europe's top club competition.

The 29-year-old has been excellent for Dortmund since joining from Stuttgart, scoring 28 goals in 29 games. Despite his efforts, Dortmund went crashing out of the Champions League, while Barcelona proceed to the semi-finals.
